Research & Development

A company needs to know how to innovate in order to provide products or services making them suitable to better satisfy ever-changing market needs: LUBEA helps companies in developing innovative software for management and logistics applications.

Since 2017 we cooperate with the principal Engineering, Informatics and Telecommunications Italian Universities, with the aim of giving added value to academic projects of R&D and ensuring the best solutions to our customers. This agreement provides us and our customers with a real competitive advantage.

Our team of consultants supports projects already in the pipeline or guides the Client towards the definition a plan of corporate innovation.

LUBEA is born as an innovative start-up company, since we carried on software development projects. One example is the development of an app launched to manage logistics in the city, that we realized together with our partner. This project is linked to the more general Smart Cities development plan that has made LUBEA a renowned company in Innovation and R&D sectors.

The SIMUM Platform

In 2017 LUBEA managed the development of the SIMUM Platform, a Web and mobile app that uses the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). The aim of the project was to facilitate the work of couriers and to optimize the traffic flow through the development of integrated solutions that can provide real time information:

  • Traffic information and reports
  • Best route calculation to complete the delivery
  • Information on incoming goods
  • Real-time monitoring of the status of couriers’ vehicles
  • Monitoring of limited traffic zones

To achieve these goals, we adopted the following technologies:

  • GPS Tracker
  • Real-time traffic information provided by TomTom
  • Application for smartphone and tablet
  • SUMO traffic situations’ simulator

1. What does it mean Intelligent Transport System (ITS)?

The ITSs are systems in which information and communication technologies are applied in the field of road transport, including infrastructure, vehicles and users, and in traffic management and mobility management, as well as for interfaces with other modes of transport.

The goal of cooperative systems is to use and plan communication and sensor infrastructure to increase road safety. Thanks to ITS, drivers and other road users will cooperate to deliver the most efficient, safe and secure journey.

These systems are fundamental because they can provide:

  • Real-time information of the current traffic conditions of the highway and road network;
  • Online information to plan a trip;
  • A tool that can help Authorities, operators and drivers to collect the best information in order to make intelligent decisions.

2. What is SIMUM Platform?

SIMUM System operates in a specific urban area, so it is necessary that the system is set to know the boundaries of the selected area.

The overall architecture of the SIMUM System includes the following layers, that communicate with each other:

  • National Public Services layer (N-layer);
  • Mobile layer (M-layer);
  • Presentation layer (P-layer);
  • Enterprise layer (E-layer);
  • Resource layer (R-layer);
  • Application framework layer (F-layer).

The technologies implemented in order to allow the layers to communicate with each other are:

  • Hibernate;
  • Rest-Json (REpresentational State Transfer – JavaScript Object Notation);
  • Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML);
  • GWT Remote Procedure Call (GWT RPC).
