A brand-new and powerful telecommunications model is accelerating around the world to meet the growing needs for coverage, sustainability, speed, and processing capacity. With this respect, EU member states, like Italy, have been developing and implementing strategic plans to encourage the construction of new network infrastructures able to provide TLC companies with high quality services and to go wireless improving fiber optic systems and connectivity. Fiber optic represents the best solution for powering the digital transformation in Italy, for promoting inclusive societies, and increasing companies’ competitiveness.

In 2018, Europe agreed to introduce the wholesale only and open access business model referring to a business model in which network operator focuses its activities at the wholesale level and does not sell broadband services directly to the mass-market. But how does this model differ from separation models? The key difference is that wholesale only operators don’t own legacy infrastructure, and thus their primary goal is to invest in the latest technologies and to maximize operational efficiency, making investments easiest.

Lubea S.r.l, TLC company and 2023 outstanding Italian consulting company, has published the fourth issue on the daily newspaper Trendonline.com about the regulation of wireless and fiber optic infrastructures, analyzing pros and cons of this new model already implemented by key players in the TLC field, like Open Fiber and Fibercop.
